How to Get MusicXML Files for Musync

What is the easiest way to start using Musync?

Start with the Musync Catalog.

Musync includes a growing catalog of MusicXML-based scores that you can open directly in the app. This is the easiest way to begin using Musync without needing to convert or import your own files.

Where can I find MusicXML scores?

Can I convert my existing PDFs or scanned sheet music into MusicXML?

Yes. Optical Music Recognition, or OMR, tools can convert printed music, scanned pages, or PDFs into MusicXML. The results are usually not perfect, so you should expect to review and clean up the file before importing it into Musync.

Why do converted MusicXML files need cleanup?

PDFs and scans are visual formats. MusicXML is a structured music notation format. When software converts a PDF or scan into MusicXML, it has to recognize notes, rests, clefs, measures, lyrics, articulations, dynamics, repeats, and layout information. Complex scores, poor scans, handwritten markings, unusual notation, or dense orchestral parts may require additional editing.

What tools can I use to edit or finalize MusicXML files?

After converting a PDF or scan, you can open the MusicXML file in a notation editor, correct recognition errors, and then import the cleaned-up file into Musync.
